Zip Code Based Maps

Recommended Posts

When can we expect state maps to receive zip codes as their entities?  Very rarely would anybody have data down to the county level, but zip codes would be used more often and are much more reliable (county names do change and/or vary depending on the source).

Hi,

This is possible using the Custom IDs in FusionMaps.

Ref:-http://www.fusioncharts.com/maps/docs/Contents/CustomID.html

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you for the suggestion.  Though the feature you pointed me to is good to know and possibly valuable in a different situation, it does not help my current situation, as I would still need to somehow map my zip-code level data to counties somehow.  Do you have a list of zip codes within the counties in your state maps by chance?  Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks for your time.

Hello,

I'm afraid we do not have a list of zip codes within the counties in the state maps.

Will a list of the Internal Id's, Short/Long names help in this situation?

If the above is true, then please call the function getEntityList in your Javascript. On doing this, you would get a array which includes a list of the above mentioned entities.

I hope this helps. :)

Hey Ryan,

I have made a note of it. :) The incorporation of this feature though is yet to be decided on.

Happy FusionCharting.

P.s.- Great work on the list. Many thanks. :)

OK, so here's the thing.  I've been working for the past week or so to successfully map zip codes to counties, and haven't been able to do so for various reasons.  It basically comes down to the county names in the other data sources not matching FusionCharts' county names closely enough.

After these attempts had failed, I contacted a contact at the United States Postal Service (USPS), and she pointed me to the United States Census Bureau (USCB), as the USPS isn't concerned with counties and doesn't maintain that data.  Eventually I found out that the USCB does not have the zip code/county relationships that we need either, so I'm back to square one.

Because these are your maps with your county names, and because so many of your competing flash map companies offer zip-code mapping capabilities, I would like to request from you a list of all zip codes within the counties on your state maps.

While waiting, has anybody else found a solution to this?  I've tried http://www.boutell.com/zipcodes/http://www.populardata.com/zipcode_database.html and http://federalgovernmentzipcodes.us/ and as mentioned speaking with the USPS and the USCB.  Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,

Welcome to FusionCharts Forum! smile.gif

I am afraid, FusionMaps does not support zip code mapping, as of now.

We would get back to you once there is any news from our end.

Hope you have a great day!

Hi Bruce,

HI,<br style="color: rgb(107, 107, 107); font-family: verdana, arial, tahoma, sans-serif; line-height: 18px; background-color: rgb(247, 247, 247); ">Slight change of topic but related, Is there any plans to create State/ZipCode Maps?<br style="color: rgb(107, 107, 107); font-family: verdana, arial, tahoma, sans-serif; line-height: 18px; background-color: rgb(247, 247, 247); ">Thanks Bruce

Could you please specify your requirement a bit elaborately?

FusionMaps XT supports State maps already provided in the pack. You can find the entire list of maps available with FusionMaps XT in the Tech Specs page in the following link.

Ref.- http://www.fusioncharts.com/products/suite/tech-specs/

Also, FusionMaps XT shows data based on geographical entities and not on zip codes. You cannot directly use ZIP code to highlight particular cities or states.

However, using the Markers feature, you can create your own custom points on the map and show them with relevant information.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi,

So my question is do you plan (I say plan as I see you do not currently) to offer maps by ZipCode... as you do the State maps showing Counties it would be very helpfull of you showed the Sate maps (US States) by Zip Code

So here is the Georgia map showing Counties now imagine it with Zip Codes

Hi,

This has been added to our feature wishlist.

We will try to add this feature, if it is feasible.

Hey,

FusionMaps XT maps currently shows data based on geographical entities and not on Zip Codes. We do not support this feature natively.

However, the Zip cope support can be implemented through API developed via third party.

Please refer to our Demo Gallery at: http://www.fusioncharts.com/demos/gallery/#geolocation-usa

Hope this helps.
